Bower Ponds Fall Family Photos Red Deer

I met the Huseby family at Bower Ponds this fall to get a few family photos before all the leaves had blown away.  We were fortunate with the best of both worlds having awesome color in the trees and a lot of leaves on the ground.  The late afternoon was perfect weather with a strong warm sunset.

Downtown Urban Portrait Photography | Red Deer

I met with Taylor and her BFF and we headed to downtown Red Deer to take some creative, fun, casual, and modern style photos.  We had no real agenda or list of specific shots so we just walked the streets and shot whatever came to mind.  This is one of my favorite shooting styles.  I love shooting in the urban setting and having freedom to shoot anything and everything!  Here are a few shots that were my favorite from that evening.

Please like my facebook page and visit it to view more photos from this shoot ;)

Family Group Outdoor Photography | Sylvan Lake Red Deer

Another successfull family photo session at Heritage Ranch!  I love Heritage Ranch and all of its great places to shoot during the fall.  This time I met up with a large family that was together for Thanksgiving.  First we took some large group shots then broke up into smaller families and took a few more.  Here are a few of my favorites;)

If you are interested in getting family photos, please send me an email or give me a call and we can chat about what you have in mind.

Portrait Photography | Sylvan Lake Red Deer

#1- A close crop on this photograph.  See the "original" below and two other crops of the same photo.
Portrait Photography doesn't have to be like your kids school photos.  You can create simpler photographs that look better and have more creativity as long as you keep your mind open.  Being in a creative mood when editing will help you to see a photo within a photo.  Tight cropping, rotation, and duplicating of good photos can help you capture something different after the photo has already been shot.

Destination Hawaii Beach Casual Photography

Hawaii is a great place to shoot photographs.  Hawaii is actually a great place for almost anything except skiing and hockey.  I shot a quick casual beach session while I was there and have these photos to share with you.

It was a beautiful day for photos this fall at Gull Lake Alberta.  The Andrew family have a cabin along the lake which was a perfect backdrop for family photos.  We didn't have to walk far to find an abundance of great spots where the family could interact, have fun, and feel comfortable in front of the camera.

The leaves were an awesome array of golden yellow and the sky just began to mist over with some thin cloud as we began.  The clouds helped to soften the light improving the pictures even further.  I chose to edit in vibrant warm colors to represent fall as well as monochrome and an aged / desaturated "cabin" look.  As usual there were too many to pic from so here are a few ;)

Golf Tournament Sylvan Lake | Sports Photography

Group shot at the 1st tee.  The group looking into the sun can be challenging since people squint and there can be a lot of shadows in the eyes.  In this case it worked great because everyone had sunglasses and the shoot was for fun anyways and was not formal.  The sun directly on the subjects allows for proper exposure of the bright sky in balance with the rest of the scene.  Hence the beautiful color and exposure.

Hey!  Here are a few quick pics from a recent golf tournament in Sylvan Lake at Meadowlands Golf Course.  It was the 10th annual golf tournament organized by Joel G.  The event raised money for charity and proves to be a great time ;)  Costumes are almost mandatory!  Enjoy

A Panorama self portrait!  Can you see me?  I was dressed up as the photographer.

Destination Wedding Photography Maui | Red Deer Alberta Photographer

Earlier this year I was fortunate enough to photograph a wedding in one of the most beautiful places in the world.  MAUI!!!  Of course the weather was perfect as usual in Hawaii and the colors were amazing.  Holly and Tyler had a casual wedding ceremony on the beach during sunset.  This made my job easy with warm light and gorgeous surroundings.  I have too many photos to display them all but here are my favorites of favorites.  If you would like to see more photos from this wedding please contact me.

If you are interested in destination photography for your wedding or special occasion please give me a call and I would be more than happy to share my experiences with you.  Packages are more reasonable than you'd think ;)

Downtown Calgary Engagement Photography

Edited in "Old Blue" as I call it, this pic is one of my favorites.  Good interaction between Dave and Laura in this "negative space" style photograph.  However the "negative space" is filled with endless pattern, textures, and shapes keeping your eyes busy.

I met with Dave and Laura in Calgary last week to shoot their engagement photos.  We picked a perfect almost spring day with temperatures well above freezing.  All we needed were light jackets and sunglasses!  We walked the streets picking random locations along the way and even stopped for a pint in a local cafe.  I had a great time with Dave and Laura.  They were a lot of fun, full of laughs, and always joking around ;)

Here are a few of my favorite photo's from the shoot....

RDES Headshots explained

similar to my other studio shots I used F2.8, 1/200th sec, and ISO 200 with a long 200mm zoom
At a first glance, the untrained eye may assume these photos were all taken the same way.

How to: Real Estate Agent Photography Red Deer

Canon 5D Mk II @ 200mm zoom, F2.8, ISO 200, 1/200th sec
I worked with Bridget, a real estate agent, starting a new career with Century 21 in Red Deer.  Bridget needed some "headshots" for business cards, newspaper advertising, and online use.  Before we met I had no idea that she needed a white background for newspaper print and a black background for display online.  Luckily I have a white cyclic seamless backdrop in my home but had to get creative for the black.  Did I have a black backdrop? No.  Will I get one soon? Probably, because it makes things a little easier.  Black soaks up light and avoids reflecting into the ambient room.

Here is what I did,.....

City of Red Deer Emergency Response Banner

The City of Red Deer used one of my photos from the summer to use on a trade show booth.  My photo is featured under the "recovery" section.  The banner looks awesome and I think they did a great job.  Check it out!

Photos from City of Red Deer's Activity Guide

A view looking down onto the ice of Red Deers "Arena"
Working with the City of Red Deer, I recently photographed a number of facilities for usage either online, in brochures, or activity guides as seen below.  A graphic designer then puts the pages together with the content and then they are ready for print and mail.

New Years Eve Wedding Red Deer

This past New Years Eve I shot a small wedding for a couple that lives in Red Deer.  They hosted a ceremony and reception in their home with their close family and friends.  Unfortunately the outside temperature that day was almost -30 which made it difficult to stay outside for more than minutes at a time.......

Red Deer College Nursing Class Graduates

I recently had the opportunity to take photos of the graduates from RDC's nursing class.  We began shooting a series of portraits of each girl in a portable studio set up I brought to RDC.  I used a 4 foot softbox with a strobe and experimented with a bit of cross lighting.  The Softbox sat camera left at about 45 degrees while the naked strobe sat high over their shoulders camera right.
